FUGAZI means transition and growth, from a band we all loved to the uncertainty of one member of that band from the past moving on with or without us. FUGAZI is defiance. Finding freedom from constraint in a world in love with rules. FUGAZI means fearlessness and as Ian himself told me once, “Diligence in your search”. FUGAZI means expressing art through pushing the barriers and living outside of the box. FUGAZI means attempting to find yourself and your own moral compass and passion and unique way in this life through creative energy. FUGAZI means pushing the boundaries. Testing the waters by jumping in head first, not with a pinky toe. FUGAZI means “All or nothing!”. FUGAZI means that creativity is a tool and it also means having the guts to use that tool, for better or for worse. FUGAZI is to reach. Reach. Reach. FUGAZI means beginnings and endings and journeys and all that was before, standing in every moment, and knowing when something has passed and when it is time to let go. FUGAZI means paying homage to every single being that has ever tried to send a message through sound and art and words and also to every single being who was ever received that message. A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
